ROBYN launches interactive 3D music video, and it's #killingme

Robyn_interactive_video

The Swedish alternative pop star known as ROBYN has launched a coded, 3D activated, interactive music video for her latest single, "Don't Fucking tell me what to do".

It starts with visualisations which feature lyrics from the song, and progresses along it's electro-synth beat to bring out the feeds from it's twitter hashtag #killingme in the second half of the video. They're credited in real time with their name at the bottom of the webpage. And the twitter symbol at the top right of the page encourages others to do the same.

I'm super excited about this marriage between hashtag and music video release. And it is interesting seeing the way that fans are engaging with it, considering that if you believe what they say, twitter is supposedly "for grownups" and doesn't appeal so much to a young audience. An execution like this might just prove for a niche queen like ROBYN, it might work the other way.

It's just the latest example of some of the creative and social ways in which new music is being released with an increasing interactive and experimental frame of mind. Lately I have been keeping a close eye on new ways the music industry have been engaging fans online, and will be sure to feature some more of this goodness soon. For now, just grab your 3D glasses and enjoy.

World Cup instant twitter replay

The Guardian have produced a fantastic interactive data visualisation that allows you to replay the way twitter traffic reacted to a game as a game played out.  It shows just how spot on they are when it comes to keeping up to the play with news and trends as they occur on the real-time web.

Italyvsnz

It also shows just how a major international event can impact the web in ways that New Organisations are only just trying to figure out how to grasp hold of and maximised for their news production.

In a further article that explains a bit more about why and how they did it they say:

The project kicked off a few months ago with a simple but challenging brief: "Can we make a distinct and engaging representation of Twitter activity during the World Cup?"

The last few years have seen some fantastic Twitter visualisations using all sorts of approaches. Standing out would be difficult. That said, whilst many of these are great fun, only a few convey a sense of context or capture the spirit of popular occasions.

The above is the world cup trendsmap, which is another spectacular visualisation

Trends related interactive graphics are only in their infancy, and I think it will be pretty interesting to see how they will develop in years to come.

Coca Cola's happiness machine makes me happy

There's something strangely satisfying about the enjoyment we get observing surprise and delight on other people's faces. And that's pretty much what this recent youtube footage of ordinary students, in an unremarkable cafeteria in a College, somewhere in the USA reminds us of.

Watch as you see this Coke machine, like any other ordinary Coke machine, starts giving out free stuff. The glee unfolds as the machine, quite literally dispenses "happiness" in the form of coke bottle after coke bottle, balloon animals and flowers, pizza and reaches a particularly epic finale.

The online-only video was released two weeks ago and is one part of  Coca Cola's "share the happiness". The interactive effort designed to better connect teens and young adults with the brand OUTSIDE of traditional tv advertising. To do this it pulls together facebook, twitter and youtube to pull off an astoundingly effective social campaiign.

At the time of writing, the video has had 1,101,283 views on youtube alone. The video was made public ONLY via  a tweet from the Coke Twitter account and from their Facebook fan page.

“Where will the happiness strike next?”.

The video / interactive work is by Definition 6
