The New York Public Library is facing serious budget cuts. So they called in the infamous flash mob performing, no-pants wearing, convention defying stunt troupe Improv Everywhere to lighten things up a bit.

They asked them to re-enact the infamous Ghostbusters opening scene - that was filmed in the library way back when - to remind people the NYPL still know how to have fun. Here's what happened:

Superimposing New York

Media_httpacidcowcompics20091106springinnewyork04jpg_irkpihhcigagnmj

Loving the redundancy of these images, the careful realignment of an image taken not once, but twice.

Each shot of photographer Fred Lebain incorporates his previous image, drawing attention the the artificiality with the hints of a hand, a foot, the stand of an easel or a corner flap. You could call it postmodern crap. I call it brilliant, ironic and a little trippy. Just my kind of thing.

According to the Public Ad Campaign group, there are over 500 ‘illegal’ street-level billboards around New York City, covered with unauthorized wheat-pasted advertising. Participating in an a second round of ‘New York Street Advertising Take Over’ (NYSAT2), the group attempted to reclaim the public space on Sunday, white-washing and creating art over more than 100 of the billboards.
