Arcade Fire and Google Chrome's personalised HTML5 music experience

5use-660x510

As Wired puts it "If music videos were made for the web, they'd look like this"

Arcade fire and Google have come out with an interactive music piece that features the street you grew up on. Using HTML5 and the capabilities of the chrome browser, this is fantastic, and can only be experienced yourself. Yes, this means you have no choice but to click on the link below and watch it.

You just have to close everything your're doing too. And open chrome. But trust me, it is actually well worth it. All you need to do is input the address of the house you grew up in and it will do the rest. Easy.

All I can say is that you need to experience this for yourself to know how cool it is. I just can't describe it.

For a preview take a look at this video:

ROBYN launches interactive 3D music video, and it's #killingme

Robyn_interactive_video

The Swedish alternative pop star known as ROBYN has launched a coded, 3D activated, interactive music video for her latest single, "Don't Fucking tell me what to do".

It starts with visualisations which feature lyrics from the song, and progresses along it's electro-synth beat to bring out the feeds from it's twitter hashtag #killingme in the second half of the video. They're credited in real time with their name at the bottom of the webpage. And the twitter symbol at the top right of the page encourages others to do the same.

I'm super excited about this marriage between hashtag and music video release. And it is interesting seeing the way that fans are engaging with it, considering that if you believe what they say, twitter is supposedly "for grownups" and doesn't appeal so much to a young audience. An execution like this might just prove for a niche queen like ROBYN, it might work the other way.

It's just the latest example of some of the creative and social ways in which new music is being released with an increasing interactive and experimental frame of mind. Lately I have been keeping a close eye on new ways the music industry have been engaging fans online, and will be sure to feature some more of this goodness soon. For now, just grab your 3D glasses and enjoy.

Fresh Stone Age Meat for Bosch, Germany.

Dino legs, mammoth steaks and sabre tooth fillets proved to be a great way of generating word of mouth buzz and engagement for Bosch, Germany recently. These were placed throughout various supermarkets around Germany to promote the latest line of Vitafresh food-storage products.
The message? They keep food fresh for much longer.

I love the disruption that this kind of thing generates among consumers. Not just that but the fun that something like this invites them to participate in, and engage with on a real level.

For those with more interest in the product, there's also the incentive of interacting with the QR code call to action on the label that enables technically savvy shoppers chance to find out more.

A great, off-beat way to experiment with people and have a little fun around a product and generate awareness of it right at the heart of the target. Awesome stuff.
